Oral-B Kids FAQs

Research shows that electric toothbrushes clean teeth and gums more effectively than manual toothbrushes. Studies have found that people who use an electric toothbrush tend to have healthier gums and longer-lasting teeth. In fact, brushing with a manual toothbrush can leave as much as 50% of plaque behind.*

*Slot DE, et al. International Journal of Dental Hygiene (2012) 10:187–197. This systematic review of 59 studies, evaluating 212 brushing exercises among more than 10,000 participants, showed that using a manual toothbrush can leave up to 50% of plaque behind. https://doi.org/10.1111/j.1601-5037.2012.00557

Oral-B designs electric and manual toothbrushes specifically for children’s growing teeth to ensure effective and gentle cleaning. The kids’ lineup offers age-appropriate options for every stage: Babies (0-2 years), Kids (3-5 years), Juniors (6-9 years), and Teens (10+ years). For babies and toddlers aged 0-2, a manual toothbrush with extra-soft bristles and a small brush head is recommended to protect tender gums. From age 3, children can transition to an electric toothbrush, featuring extra-soft bristles and popular characters that make brushing both fun and engaging.

For babies and toddlers aged 0-2, a manual toothbrush with soft bristles is recommended to clean their teeth gently and protect sensitive gums. As children grow, their oral care needs change. Oral-B offers a range of manual and electric toothbrushes for kids of all ages. For children aged 3 and older, Oral-B electric toothbrushes help ensure effective brushing and encourage brushing for the recommended two-minute duration.

Children can start using an electric toothbrush from around age 3 with supervision. Oral-B electric toothbrushes feature extra-soft bristles and fun designs to make brushing effective and enjoyable.

Oral-B’s lineup of kids’ toothpaste features formulas with age-appropriate fluoride levels to support healthy, growing smiles. Toddlers should use toothpaste with lower fluoride levels compared to children aged 6 and above. Oral-B addresses these specific needs with toothpastes categorised by age: Oral-B Baby Toothpaste for 0-2 years, Oral-B Kids 3+ Toothpaste for children aged 3 and above, and Oral-B Junior 6+ Toothpaste for children aged 6 and older.

Replace your child’s toothbrush every three months, or sooner if the bristles become frayed or matted.

Make brushing enjoyable by using a fun toothbrush for kids with bright colours, playful designs, or favourite characters. Encourage games, songs, or rewards to motivate regular brushing and help children develop healthy oral care habits.

Replace the brush head approximately every three months, or sooner if the bristles become frayed or worn, to maintain effective and safe cleaning. Replaceable brush heads for kids’ electric toothbrushes are available on the Oral-B website.

Infant electric toothbrushes are not recommended. For babies under 2 years, use a manual or silicone toothbrush to clean delicate gums and emerging teeth. Electric toothbrushes are better suited for children aged 3 and older, who can safely use them under supervision.

Pick a toothbrush that fits comfortably in your child’s mouth and is easy to hold. Opt for soft, round-ended bristles that clean effectively without irritating their gums.

A 2-year-old should brush their teeth twice a day, once in the morning and once before bedtime, using a small, soft-bristled toothbrush and a rice-sized amount of fluoride toothpaste.
